Introduction
Pullets are temperature sensitive and require constant heat and proper humidity. Space should be limited to avoid overcrowding, ensuring safety and health in the battery cage.
Provide increased activity space to promote bone development. Feeders and drinkers can be expanded to meet the growing pullets’ needs, using modern poultry equipment.
Gradually transition to battery cage designs similar to laying cages to reduce future stress. Adjust drinking and feeding heights as well as cage density to match the standards of the laying phase.
| Stage | Battery Cage/System | Water System | Feed System | Manure Removal | Key Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1~3 Weeks | Brooder box or small battery cage | Adjustable chick drinkers | Chick feed trough, low position | Bedding with manual cleaning | Maintains temperature, humidity, and prevents trampling. Left-right scroll to view full table content. |
| 4~8 Weeks | Small layered battery cage (2-3 layers) | Automatic drinking line, adjustable height | Semi-automatic or automatic chain/spiral feeders | Can add vertical manure belt | Increases activity and promotes bone development. Left-right scroll to view full table content. |
| 9~16 Weeks | Multi-layer battery cage (3 layers), density similar to laying cage | Adjustable drinking line with pressure regulator | Fully automatic spiral or chain feeder | Vertical + horizontal manure belt or scraper | Prepares pullets for laying cage environment, reduces transfer stress. Plastic mesh floor to protect feet.
Layered design, bottom can have padding for warmth.
Size similar to future laying battery cage to facilitate transfer.
Automatic drinking line with adjustable height.
Stable water pressure to allow chicks to drink easily.
Optional water level alarm for efficient farm management.
Use chick feed trough for 1~4 weeks.
Use fully automatic spiral or chain feeders from 4~16 weeks.
Ensures uniform feed distribution and reduces selective eating.
1~3 weeks: bedding with manual cleaning.
4~16 weeks: vertical belt or scraper system.
Maintains dry environment and reduces ammonia levels.
Heating box or warm air stove (1~3 weeks).
Smart fans with wet curtain ventilation (4~16 weeks).
LED timed lighting to promote uniform growth.
Density Control: 0.05–0.07 m² per bird for chicks, 0.08–0.10 m² per bird for pullets, approaching laying cage density.
Temperature Management: Week 1 around 32°C, gradually decreasing to 18–20°C by week 16.
Transition Design: Adjust cage height, feeder, and drinker heights gradually to match future laying battery cage and reduce stress.
1~3 Weeks: Brooder box or small battery cage + chick feed trough + adjustable drinkers + bedding
4~8 Weeks: Small layered battery cage + automatic feeder + adjustable drinkers + manure belt
9~16 Weeks: Multi-layer battery cage (similar to laying cage) + fully automatic feeder + automatic drinker + vertical and horizontal manure system
This setup ensures warmth, bone development, uniform growth, and smooth transition to the laying period, using modern poultry equipment in a poultry farm.
